We hate it, but it does happen! There are times when the blank word doc is your biggest challenge, and filling it with flowing, inspiring words becomes the most daunting task. If you’ve ever experienced a writer’s nightmare, the writer’s block, you’ll nod in agreement.
Recently, we had a chat with a few creative folks on what they do to get rid of the awful block. Here are some of the saner suggestions.
- Read something inspiring. Read the work of an author or writer whose style you like. Helps you find your muse.
- Work on a different topic. Write what you like talking about; ignore the client brief for a few minutes. When you find the words flowing without any effort, get back to the difficult brief.
- Try your hand at some other form of creativity. Cook, make your pin-up board colourful, or just imagine a different world. It helps the creative juices flow without any stress.
And the more off-beat, endearing ones…
- Eat some ‘feel-good’ food. Gooey chocolate, melted cheese, sinful pastry all warm the heart and leave you feeling good. And what’s impossible when you’re feeling great?
- Imagine you’ve won an award. Think of what you’d say at your acceptance speech. If you can get that speech right, you can get anything else right too.
- Go to the washroom. Some minutes of peace on the potty seat can ease cluttered thinking and let fresh thoughts flow!
