William Shakespeare. We all think this is the right way of spelling it. Even ‘word’ throws up an error if the name is typed differently. Apparently, the bard spelt his own name in many different ways. According to a book by Bill Bryson, the bard’s signature varies – it is spelt as ‘Willm Shaksp’, ‘William Shakespe’, ‘Wm Shakspe’, and even ‘William Shakspeare’.
So much for copywriters being fastidious about spelling names the right way. One of the most-read writers in history surely wasn’t.
